iPhone 5 vs iPhone 4S: Features and Specs Comparison Chart

Although Microsoft Nokia partnership was aimed to take on Apple and Android, its will still require plenty of efforts to get Windows Phone 8 devices to come up with some really fantastic features and compatible applications in order to penetrate in the market. We also have already covered a direct comparison between new iPhone 5 vs iPhone 4s to chart out the features and specs updated in new generation.

iPhone 5 vs Galaxy S3 Features and Specs Comparison

iPhone 5 vs Galaxy S3 seems to be the real contestants in the worlds best smartphone game. Lets review iPhone 5 vs Galaxy S3 Features and Specs in a one to one comparison:

Design
Apple iPhone 5 is 7.6mm thick with metal casing and anon-removable battery while the Samsung Galaxy S3 is 8.6mm thick with plastic casing and a removable battery.

Apple’s aggressive measures to maintain the thinness of the iPhone 5 has paid off with it being a full millimetre thinner than Galaxy S3. This has been achieved by removing the glass layer at the back, using a tiny nano-SIM and merging the constituent layers of the screen technology, squishing everything in the process.

Display Screen
Compare iPhone 5’s 4in IPS, 1,136 x 640 resolutions with Galaxy S3’s 4.8 in Super AMOLED, 1280 x 720 resolution.

The iPhone screen size at 3.5 inches hasn’t changed since the first model was created in 1997. The iPhone 5 steps away from the norm with a widescreen 4 inch display of 1136 x 640 pixels. With an extremely large 4.8in display, Galaxy3 has always been a bit unwieldy at 7.6cms. The pixel density of its screen is similar to the new iPhone even with a 720 x 1,280 display spread.

Processor Power
iPhone 5 comes with a A6 processor, power TBC and 1GB RAM. Compare this with 1GB RAM, Exynos 4412 and Quad-core 1.4GHz Provided by Galaxy S3.

Processor figures are an area where Samsung holds the upper hand. It makes use of the inspiring Exynos 4412 chip, with 4 cores. You should know that it runs at 1.4GHz. Apple hasn’t released any technical data on its CPU. The iPhone 4S chip comes with a dual-core 1 GHz as well as PowerVR SGX543MP2 graphics making the iPhone 5 two times faster. Whether it will be quad-core and offer zooming speed remains to be seen.

Cameras
iPhone 5 cameras come with a 8MP, LED flash which is the same as Galaxy S3. iPhone 5 doesn’t see much camera up-gradation. The camera extras are a five-element lens and f/2.4 aperture. The sensor will provide you with backside illumination like the 4 Series. Galaxy S3 with extra features like image touch focus, stabilization, and LED flash and1080p video capture cannot match the iPhones.

Battery Life
iPhone 5 gives you up to eight hours talk time compared to Galaxy S3’s 2100 mAh. iPhone 5 battery in genuine world terms provides forty(40) hours of audio. The Galaxy S3 battery is 20% better than that of rivals.

Connectivity
You will find a new proprietary 8-pin connector in iPhone 5 but no microSD or microSIM. Galaxy S3 offers both microSD and microSIM with microUSB.

The iPhone 5 has in a revolutionary measure, replaced the standard 30-pin connector applied across its devices with a slighter 8-pin model. While it’s not the same as a micro USB standard, it’s of a comparable size. One of Apple’s strength lies in this creation of newer versions.

Samsung’s approach is the polar opposite. You can make use of microSD cards as well as the microUSB standard. Galaxy S3 is MHL compliant. With surround sound audio, now it is easy for you to output HD video to a port (HDMI), but with the proper cable. With a Samsung phone, you transfer files directly to a computer by the drag and drag file option via USB, unlike iPhone’s reliance on sync software.

Accessories
New design Earpod headphones and a new Lighting power connector are provided with iPhone 5. The Galaxy S3 on the other hand is accessorized with a microUSB charge cable, adapter and a Samsung noise-isolating IEM earphone.

The 30-pin power cable has been replaced by the new 8(eight) pin socket in the iPhone 5, called lighting that fits in well the thunderbolt computer port. Samsung has, on the other hand, provides the standard accessories mentioned above.

Conclusion

Apple iPhone 5 vs Galaxy S3 comparison has just been made to give you an idea of the overall feature set both top runner smartphones do have. Apple has launched its next-generation iPhone 5 with its best capabilities, on the other hand Galaxy S3 is best phone from Samsung, the competition goes neck to neck and makes it really tough to decide.

Windows Phone 8: Future yet be seen
While Samsung Galaxy S3 with Android 4 and Apple iPhone 5 with iOS 6 are already making billions in sale, Nokia Lumia 920 with Microsoft Windows Phone 8 seems to have moved in an entirely separate direction and driving down its own path, which is yet be seen for success.

Apple iPhone 5: Just Hardware Upgrades
Honestly speaking, beside Apple's high manufacturing and finishing quality, as far as specs are concerned, Android devices have already been doing what the iPhone 5 has offered, unless you are in live with iPhone that is nothing new introduced in iPhone 5, just merely hardware upgrades.

Despite the charm attached with Apple iPhone and its fan's desire to purchase the new iPhone 5, we don't see any special features or any substantial innovation other than hardware upgrades this time in Apple iPhone 5 compared to its arch rival Samsung Galaxy S3, its predecessor iPhone 4s and struggling Nokia Lumia 920.

After new iPhone 5 release, it seems that Apple launched the device just to map the increasing hardware gap between iPhone 4S and competitors devices like Samsung Galaxy S3, Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC One X.

These hardware upgrades were long due from 2011. Apple should have brought these hardware specification with iPhone 5 in 2011 with iOS 5, so that it could have focus on offering some competitive advantage in term of features and innovation this year with iPhone 6 and iOS 6.

iOS vs Android: Real Smartphone Battle
Hardware upgrades, no doubt play an important role in technology evolution, but the real boom a smartphone drives, comes from its software features. This isn’t just a battle between the Apple iPhone 5 vs Galaxy S3 but is actually the definition of the case between iOS 6 and Android 4. The Galaxy S3 is more flexible, offers option of expandable memory, a more malleable OS and all in price much less than iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 however has a more premium feel and has a much friendlier design.

  7. There is no doubt that Apple iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Nokia Lumia 920 are different in term of operating system, usability, accessibility, look, feel and even user base following.

However, iPhone 5, Galaxy S3 and Lumia 920 are competitor smartphones devices. The die hard fans of Apple, Android and Nokia might not leave their platform for another. But whenever it will come to buy smartphone, a new user will have to go through evaluating all these choices.
