Like Flexible Display Phones and Oppo N1 Phone with CyanogenMod and 13MP Rotating Camera, YotaPhone with front LCD display screen and e-Ink back screen is one of the most innovative smartphone idea. Although apparently it was not looking feasible from battery consumption and the displays cost perspective.

The dual-screen mobile is developed by Yota, a company based in Russia. The device has been in rumors, news reports and discussion for a year.

However, experts were doubtful about the materialization of the idea and Yota Phone release data. But good news is that YotaPhone is coming out this Christmas with dual-screen running Android 4.2 operating system.

It was late last year that first signs of the existence of this idea and the device had come into circulation. At events like the CES and MWC the phone had been displayed in its first form, generating a lot of public interest in the process. Finally the Russian company has indicated that mass production would commence and that they would be taking the help of Hi-P, a company based in Singapore for the production task.

The front LCD screen is for using the handset as smartphone, while the e-Ink panel at back allows it to be used as an e-Reader. This type of screen is also already used in e-Readers like Kindle and Kobo.

The backside screen of YotaPhone also enables users to see notifications like messages, calls, reminders, appointments, weather etc even when the smartphone display is not turned on.

Two displays might theoretically increase the overall thickness when compared to a single-screen device, but Yota has managed to keep it less than 10mm thick, with a weight of just 140 grams. Both displays features Gorilla Glass protection.

Yota Phone battery review
The manufacturer pre-installs its proprietary gestures and Put2Back apps in the handset. The 1800 mAh battery pack however cast negative impression about how longer it can support the double screens.

The secondary e-Ink display consumes very less power compared to primary display, the company claims to taken other measures to increase the battery performance around 50%. Below is the video showing hands on experience of the phone.
