How do Cell Phone Jammers Work?

A mobile phone jammer is a device that is used to block mobile phones from receiving signals from base stations.

The jammer is capable to stop all the wireless connections used by the phone. The jammer denies service of the radio spectrum to the cell-phone users within range of the jamming device.

Disrupting a cell phone is the same as jamming any other type of radio communication. A cell phone works by communicating with its service network through a cell tower. Cell towers divide a city into small areas, or cells. As a cell-phone user drives down the street, the signal is handed from tower to tower.

Older jammers sometimes were restricted to working on phones using only analog or older digital mobile phone standards. Newer double and triple band jammers can block all widely used systems (CDMA, iDEN, GSM, et al.) and are even very effective against newer phones which jump to different frequencies and systems when interfered with.

The jammer's effect can vary widely based on factors such as proximity to towers, indoor and outdoor settings, presence of buildings and landscape, even temperature and humidity play a role.

Uses of Cell Phone Jammer

Mobile cell phone jammers are used as follows:

• Military and law enforcement use
• Public places like cricket stadiums, concert halls, theatres
• Meeting halls
• Religious places

Cell Phone Jammer Components

When you disassemble a cell phone jammer, you’ll discover that it is a very simple device. On the outside, it has a power switch and a light to indicate that it is on. Complex jammers have switches that allow users to change the frequencies to be jammed. The parts of a jammer include:

Antenna
Mobile jammer has an antenna to send the RF signal produced in the jammer. On high powered devices, antennas are on the outside to have a wider range and can be tuned for specific frequencies.

Jammer Circuit
The main elements of a jammer include a voltage-controlled oscillator, noise generator, RF amplification, tuning circuit, and power supply. The oscillator generates the radio signal that interrupts the cell phone signal. The tuning circuit controls the frequency in which the jammer broadcasts the signal by transmitting a voltage towards the oscillator.

The noise generator creates random electronic output within a frequency range to disrupt the signal of the cell network. The RF amplification allows the jammer boosts the RF signal. Small jammers are powered by batteries, but stronger devices are required to be plugged into a standard outlet. There are some devices that can be wired into the car’s electrical system.

How do Cell Phone Jammers Work?

Nowadays almost everyone owns a cell phone. It is a suitable mean of staying in touch with others. But as the use of cell phone is increasing tremendously, there are locations that suffer because public don’t know when to stop using their phones. For this reason cell phone jammers were invented. It disrupts the signal going to and from the phone.

Cell phone jammers work in a similar technique to radio jammers by sending out the similar radio frequencies on which cell phones are operated. Doing so creates enough interference so that a call cannot connect with a cell phone.

There are two kinds of cell phone jammers currently offered. The first type is generally smaller devices that block the signals coming from cell phone towers to individual cell phones. The frequency blocked is between 800MHz and 1900MHz. The devices that apply this type of technology can block signals within about a 30-foot radius. Cell phones inside this range simply show no signal. The second kind of cell phone jammer is generally much larger in size and more powerful. They function by blocking the transmission of a signal from the satellite to the cell phone tower. Some powerful models can block cell phone transmissions within a 5 mile radius.

A signal jammer transmits on the same radio frequency as the cell phone. It interrupts the communication between the cell phone and the base station set up in the tower. A cellular phone is a full-duplex device that utilizes two frequencies at the same time. One is for talking while the other is for listening. The signals are handled at the same time. There are signal jammers that can only block one of the frequencies at a time, which results to the blocking of both because the phone thinks that there is no service in the area because it can only get one of the frequencies.

Intelligent Cellular Jammer is a jamming technique where RF signal is not transmitted to stop communication among mobiles and base stations. Here the jammer device operates like a detector. To communicate with the tower or base station, the jammer device uses an identification number. When the signal is transmitted from the tower to the mobile phone user, the jammer detects it and signals the base station not to set up a communication. The deterrence is done by the software at the base station.
