We need to discuss all three types of televisions in detail so that you can get a better picture of how things really are. So let us begin this Comparison of LCD, LED & Plasma Televisions:

  • LCD – Liquid Crystal Display Televisions

LCD television utilizes the LCD display technologies to manufacture televisions. LCD televisions are considerably thinner and much lighter than the more established and rather ageing Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs). Though it was very expensive when it first came in the early 200s, the sales of LCD televisions overtook televisions with CRTs in 2007 as the manufacturing cost fell. Since this technology is still developing, it has some drawbacks in durability and in environmental issues.

  • LED – Light Emitting Diodes Televisions

LED can arguably be credited an offspring of the LCD display technology. In essence, it is an LCD television that uses LED backlighting instead of CCFL (Cold Cathode). This makes the panel even thinner and the display to be brighter. It also consumes lesser energy (almost 20-30% less than LCD) and has also countered the environmental issues of a traditional LCD display. The major drawback is that it is still quite ridiculously overpriced.

  • Plasma Televisions

Out of all these three, Plasma is the most recognized and developed technology. It uses ionization of gases that are charged electrically in “fluorescent lamps”. Plasma Televisions are of sizes above 30 inches. It produces better viewing angles, in comparison to LCD televisions and also has significantly less blurry images in motion. Its major flaw is the much higher energy consumption. It also has issues in higher altitudes and areas of more AM radio waves and frequencies.
